Challenge

The challenge of the project was adapting the building to the specific terrain. The plot designated for development is a depression in the ground, created during World War II under German occupation as a foundation for stadium stands.

Objective

The competition focused on developing an urban and architectural concept for actual implementation. Participants had to design a clinical, teaching, and research building for the Pomeranian Medical University in Szczecin. The project could also be a complex of multiple buildings. The total usable floor area needed to be 55,000 m², with a 10% margin either way. This included all circulation areas, technical rooms, and auxiliary spaces. Indoor parking spaces were also required. The design had to include site development as well.

Results

The project won because of its clear and functional design. It fully meets what the investor was looking for. The building layout is simple and easy to understand. Getting around inside and outside feels intuitive. The design works really well with the existing terrain. Construction can happen in phases without causing problems. Future expansions are possible without disrupting daily operations. The educational and research areas are smartly separated. This keeps noise levels comfortable and helps people work together effectively. Students get friendly spaces designed just for them. The underground parking is easy to access and functional. The technical areas are well thought out. Overall, it's a smart solution that's flexible and ready for the future.
